God of War Laufey will launch on May 20, 2027, moving Faye’s PlayStation 5 adventure back from February 16. Santa Monica Studio says it will use the roughly three additional months to finish and polish the game.

In its November 4 announcement, the developer described the decision as part of delivering an experience that meets fans’ expectations. It did not identify a specific technical problem or announce changes to the game’s scope.

“We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential.”

The studio also promised more updates, but gave no date for its next showing. Although the move takes Laufey out of a February release calendar that includes Fable, Persona 4 Revival and Metro 2039, Santa Monica did not cite competition as the reason for the delay.

What Faye’s adventure changes

Laufey puts Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother in the lead, with Deborah Ann Woll returning as Faye. As explained in the studio’s original PlayStation Blog reveal, she awakens after her funeral in the Everywhen, an afterlife shared by gods from different mythologies. Her plans to protect Kratos and Atreus are threatened, giving her a reason to fight her way out.

The combat combines the Greek-era games’ mobility with the Norse games’ character-focused approach. Faye can move between ground and aerial attacks, while her Golden Hand of the Jötnar can knock an enemy’s soul out of its body and into other foes.

Faye’s sword and soul-manipulating Golden Hand are central to her combat abilities.

Faye taking the lead does not mean Santa Monica is retiring Kratos. In a June statement following the reveal, the studio said it had more stories to tell with him. That was a statement about the series’ future, not an announcement of another game or release date.
