Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is adding one-on-one races with Duel Mode as Year Two launches later today, November 3. The update also introduces new Gadgets and a Super Slot that boosts an equipped Gadget's effects.

Sega's PlayStation Blog announcement also confirms permanent US PlayStation Store price cuts. The Standard Edition drops to $39.99, while the Digital Deluxe Edition and Year Two Digital Deluxe Edition are each $59.99.

How Duel Mode changes the race

Duel Mode takes the field down from the usual 12 racers to two. The development team says that makes the gap between opponents and the timing of item use central to its head-to-head strategy.

Customization gets another choice through the Super Slot, a dedicated space for a one-slot Gadget. Placing a Gadget there enhances its effects, giving players a way to strengthen one part of their setup alongside the new Gadgets joining Year Two.

CrossWorlds already lets racers combine vehicle parts and equip Gadgets to suit their driving style. Its official PlayStation page describes races across land, sea and air, with Travel Rings transporting the field into other dimensions during a race.

Sega consoles become racing machines

The Sega Consoles Pack is a bonus exclusive to the Year Two Digital Deluxe Edition and Season Pass Two. It adds three vehicles inspired by the Dreamcast, Genesis and Sega Saturn, turning an earlier April Fool's joke into playable machines.

The designs borrow each console's shapes, colours and button layouts. The team even used original reference data to recreate the Dreamcast's Visual Memory Unit, while adapting the hardware and controllers to the game's front-and-rear vehicle combinations.

Sega says Year Two will bring more racers, vehicles and courses, although this post does not name the additional characters or tracks. On PlayStation, CrossWorlds is available for PS4 and PS5; online play requires PlayStation Plus.
