Grand Theft Auto VI digital buyers can start downloading on November 10, giving them nine days to prepare for the November 19 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar's newly confirmed schedule opens the preload two days earlier than the seven-day window still advertised on PlayStation's game page.

The November 3 Rockstar announcement also puts the preload requirement at up to 212 GB, depending on the device. It does not give separate sizes for PS5, Xbox Series X or Series S.

That updates the picture from last week's reported 210 GB PS5 download, which was not an official storage specification. The new figure is a ceiling for the preload across devices, not confirmation that every version is exactly 212 GB.

PS5 uses local midnight; Xbox has one worldwide start

The console schedules differ, as Rockstar Report's preload coverage also details:

  • PS5 preloading begins at midnight in your local time zone on Tuesday, November 10.
  • Xbox Series X|S preloading begins worldwide at 12 a.m. GMT on November 10. In North America, that is Monday, November 9 at 7 p.m. EST or 4 p.m. PST.

Preloading is not early access to play: the release date remains November 19.

Code-in-box versions for both consoles should reach retailers beginning November 12, according to Rockstar. Those buyers should not assume their copy will be available for the first day of digital preloading.

Make room on one PS5 storage drive

PS5 owners clearing space need enough room in a single storage location. Sony's SSD guidance says a game's data cannot be split between console storage and an added M.2 SSD.

A compatible M.2 SSD can download and run PS5 games directly. USB extended storage can hold them, but they must be copied back to console or M.2 storage before playing. Free space across several drives cannot simply be added together to fit GTA 6.
