Cyberpunk 2's quest systems could have a multiplayer component, with CD Projekt Red listing network synchronization among the skills it would welcome in a Lead Quest Programmer. It is another hiring clue about online play in the sequel, but the listing does not announce a multiplayer mode or confirm a co-op campaign.

The official vacancy, released on October 26, is for the Cyberpunk 2 team led from Boston. Under its optional qualifications, CD Projekt Red asks for an “Understanding of multiplayer network architecture and client-server synchronization for game state/quests.” The section explicitly says these skills are not required to apply.

That reference to quest state is more specific than a general request for online experience: it concerns keeping game and quest information synchronized between clients and a server. It does not describe how players would interact, how many could play together or whether online features would sit inside the main story.

The role itself remains focused on narrative technology. The successful applicant would lead engineers working on story systems, collaborate with quest designers and help develop the tools used to create narrative-driven experiences. Familiarity with Unreal Engine architecture is another optional qualification. None of this establishes that the sequel is abandoning single-player play.

This is not the first multiplayer-related vacancy attached to Cyberpunk 2. In September 2025, TheGamer reported that CD Projekt Red was recruiting a Lead Network Engineer to design network architecture and online systems for the project. That older vacancy has since been removed from the developer's careers site. The quest-programming reference adds a more specific story-system connection to that earlier hiring, without revealing a finished feature.

Cyberpunk 2077 remains listed as a single-player game on Steam. Multiplayer would be a substantial addition for its successor, but the current vacancy supplies no mode details, player count or explanation of whether quests could be shared with friends.
