Grand Theft Auto VI reportedly needs a 210GB download on PS5, and anyone making space will need that room on a single drive. Sony does not allow a PS5 game's installation to be split between console storage and an added M.2 SSD.
PlayStation Game Size posted the figure on October 27. Insider Gaming says it can corroborate the information, while Rockstar Report also covered the PS5 download claim. Rockstar and PlayStation have not published a final storage requirement on their public game pages.
The reported size could change before release, and any launch update could add another download. It is a useful indication of the space to clear, not a guarantee that exactly 210GB will cover the final installation.
Digital preloading is set to begin on November 12. PlayStation's GTA 6 page lists a seven-day preload, ahead of the November 19, 2026 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S confirmed by Rockstar.
An added M.2 SSD can run PS5 games, a USB drive cannot
An almost-full console SSD does not necessarily mean deleting games or buying a new drive. An already-installed, compatible M.2 SSD can hold and run PS5 games directly, according to Sony's storage guidance. Sony also allows downloads straight to that expansion storage.
The restriction is that all data for a particular game must stay in the same storage location. Free space spread across the internal SSD and an expansion drive cannot be combined for one installation.
USB extended storage works differently. It can hold PS5 games to free up SSD space, but those games must be copied back to console storage or compatible M.2 storage before they can be played. A large USB drive alone will not provide playable storage for GTA 6.
The 210GB report concerns PS5. It does not establish the download size for either Xbox Series X or Series S.
