Star Wars Battlefront 3 could bring back the multiplayer shooter series with either returning developer DICE or Bungie, according to a rumor discussed by Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb. The claim describes Lucasfilm looking for a development partner, not a studio already signed up to make the game.
As Kotaku reports, Grubb featured Electronic Gaming Monthly's Quartermann gossip column on the October 19 edition of Game Mess Mornings. The column says Lucasfilm has been seeking a partner for a follow-up, names EA DICE and Bungie as possibilities and says no one has fully committed.
That leaves the developer, release timing and platforms unresolved. Bungie's inclusion does not establish that the Destiny studio is making Battlefront 3, and the rumor is not an official announcement from Lucasfilm, EA or Bungie.
What a Battlefront return would follow
DICE developed EA's 2015 Battlefront reboot and its 2017 sequel. A third modern entry would return to a series whose appeal spans infantry fighting, vehicles and playable Star Wars heroes. The official Battlefront II page describes multiplayer battles for up to 40 players, alongside separate starfighter combat and a single-player campaign. Those are features of the existing game, not promises about a sequel.

Battlefront II's regular content updates ended in April 2020. In an official community letter, creative director Dennis Brännvall described 25 free content updates and said the team would move away from regular additions after the April 29 Battle on Scarif update. The letter distinguished that change from the servers, recurring events and game support that would continue.
