EA has confirmed that DICE and Respawn Entertainment will collaborate on a new project in its shooter portfolio, as reports identify the game as Star Wars Battlefront 3. The publisher has not named the game or announced a release date or platforms.

In an October 21 statement shared with employees, EA placed the collaboration alongside its plans for the shooter business, explicitly separating it from future Battlefield games.

“In addition to our future Battlefield titles, we’ll be bringing together our Respawn and DICE studios to collaborate on a future project that will help us achieve that ambition,” the statement reads. “We can’t wait to share more when the time comes.”

The Battlefront 3 identification goes beyond what EA disclosed. IGN reports that Variety corroborated the sequel’s identity through sources, without details about its gameplay or release timing. EA’s statement confirms the studio partnership, not the reported title.

That is a new development following the earlier rumor naming Bungie and DICE as possible Battlefront developers. That claim described Lucasfilm seeking a partner with no studio committed. EA has now publicly named a DICE/Respawn collaboration, although it has not described how the studios will divide the work.

A separate project from Battlefield and Jedi

EA also reaffirmed development of the next Star Wars Jedi game in the same announcement, discussing it under its action-adventure plans. The DICE/Respawn collaboration appears separately under shooters, so the statement does not describe an additional studio joining the Jedi sequel.

DICE developed EA’s 2015 Battlefront reboot and its 2017 sequel. The official Battlefront II page describes ground battles for up to 40 players, separate starfighter combat and a single-player campaign. Those are features of the existing game, not confirmed features of the reported sequel.

Battlefront II remains available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as listed on EA’s current game page. Those platforms do not establish where a new Battlefront would launch.
