Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 3 will let PS5 and PC players fight together through cross-play, a change from the separate console and Steam versions of Battle Operation 2. Bandai Namco announced the free-to-play sequel during the Gundam Games 40th anniversary livestream on October 28. It has not set a release date.
The previous game's official PC site explicitly rules out cross-play and cross-saves. Battle Operation 2 reached Steam in May 2023, so the sequel's shared PS5 and Steam battles remove a longstanding barrier to playing with friends on the other platform. Cross-play does not itself confirm shared progression, which the new announcement does not address.
Mobile suits and infantry return
Battle Operation 3 keeps the series' mix of piloted mobile suits and on-foot objectives. Players enlist as mercenaries and can leave their machines to plant bombs at enemy bases, call in support fire or secure objectives. Those jobs give infantry a role in deciding a battle even while mobile suits exchange fire around them.
The new SP Skills give individual suits unique abilities tied to their combat roles. Bandai Namco is also adding Battle Assist, described as an interface feature that helps players execute combos more easily. Neither change replaces the need to balance a team's long-range weapons and close-quarters fighters.

The launch roster will include suits from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED alongside Universal Century machines, with more Gundam series planned through updates. SEED is not entirely new territory for Battle Operation: Bandai Namco's Battle Operation 2 page records the addition of Freedom Gundam in January 2024. The sequel is making that mix of Gundam timelines part of its launch offering.
Developed by Bandai Namco Forge Digitals and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the sequel is listed on Steam with its release timing still to be announced. Only PS5 and Steam have been confirmed. The official site lists support for up to 18 players, without breaking that figure down by mode, and confirms that free-to-play access includes paid content. An internet connection and a PlayStation Network or Steam account are required.
