GTA 6's digital pre-orders in the United States are running an estimated 148% ahead of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II at the same distance from launch. Sensor Tower's comparison puts Rockstar's game at almost two and a half times the 2022 shooter's pre-order level, before GTA 6 arrives on November 19.
The analysis, reported by GamesIndustry.biz on October 20, excludes boxed releases and purchases outside the US. Modern Warfare II was the strongest pre-order performer among the other games compared, which also included Diablo IV, Hogwarts Legacy and Marvel's Spider-Man 2. The 148% lead is against that benchmark, not a measurement of GTA 6's worldwide sales growth.
It is also no guarantee that the same gap will hold at launch. In an August interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Sensor Tower's Karl Kontus warned that applying normal pre-order trajectories to GTA 6 would produce an estimate above 40 million pre-orders by release. He suspected demand was unusually front-loaded, making those normal comparisons unreliable. That warning predates the latest figures, but explains why a huge early lead should not be read as a launch forecast.
The worldwide estimate is a separate figure. Rockstar Report covered the updated total of 6.45 million digital pre-orders and about $630 million in revenue, also reported by Insider Gaming on October 20. Those are Sensor Tower estimates, not sales results announced by Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive.
PlayStation 5 accounts for an estimated 74% of those pre-orders, with Xbox Series X|S taking 26%. The earlier October 13 snapshot cited by GamesIndustry.biz stood at 6.08 million copies and $594 million, so the newer worldwide estimate adds roughly 370,000 pre-orders.
Rockstar's official GTA VI site lists the game for November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
