EA Sports is bringing back Fight Night, ending more than 15 years without a new entry in its boxing series. The publisher confirmed the return on October 20, but has not announced a release date or platforms.

The announcement from EA Sports' Fight Night account was brief:

"To everyone who stayed in our corner: Fight Night is coming back."

EA accompanied the message with artwork of boxing gloves suspended above a ring, carrying the words "The fight is never over." It did not reveal gameplay, a fighter roster or modes. The image at the top of this article is from Fight Night Champion, not the new game.

A return after earlier reboot plans were reportedly scrapped

The confirmation follows Insider Gaming's September 18 report that earlier plans for a Fight Night reboot had been cancelled. Citing people familiar with the project, the outlet said the decision had been made roughly a year before its report, after development had already paused.

That report left open the possibility of a fresh attempt. EA has now confirmed the series' return, although its announcement does not explain how the new game relates to that earlier work or how far development has progressed.

Fight Night Champion, released in 2011 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, remains the last entry. Alongside its boxing simulation, it featured a story campaign following fictional contender Andre Bishop and a Legacy mode for creating a boxer and building a career, as detailed on its Xbox store page. EA has not said whether either mode will return.
