It Takes Two arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 15, 2026, and existing Switch owners can upgrade without buying the game again in eligible regions. EA's announcement confirms crossplay and a 1080p, 60fps docked presentation for Hazelight's two-player adventure.
The free upgrade is not available in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong or Taiwan. Elsewhere, EA says the Switch game must be owned on the same Nintendo Account used to claim the offer. An internet connection and Nintendo eShop access are required, with redemption available through the eShop or the game's offer screen on Switch 2.
New buyers will pay $39.99, according to EA's release announcement. The game reached the original Switch in November 2022, and Nintendo lists that edition as compatible with Switch 2. October 15 brings the enhanced version, not the first way to play it on the newer console.
How to bring a co-op partner
The new crossplay feature lets Switch 2 players team up with someone on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 or PS5. Friend's Pass lets a second player join the full adventure without purchasing their own copy, provided one player owns the game. The guest needs the free Friend's Pass trial installed and the appropriate platform account.
EA also confirms local GameShare with original Switch systems. Nintendo's GameShare rules make the hardware distinction important: a Switch 2 must host the shared game, while either a Switch or Switch 2 can receive it. That gives a nearby partner with the older console a way to join without requiring both players to upgrade their hardware.
Turn Me Up Studios worked with Hazelight on the Switch 2 edition. Alongside the docked performance improvements, EA lists higher-resolution textures, revised lighting, enhanced effects and faster loading. Its stated 1080p/60fps specification applies to docked mode; the announcement does not give a handheld resolution or frame-rate figure.

The adventure follows Cody and May, a divorcing couple transformed into dolls by their daughter Rose. Two players must coordinate through changing platforming and puzzle challenges to restore their bodies and repair their relationship. It won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2021.
