Halo's reportedly cancelled Project Ekur would have sent playable Spartans and Banished Brutes into a Flood outbreak on Zeta Halo, with rival squads sometimes joining forces against larger enemies. The claimed design mixed extraction-shooter missions with a shrinking battle royale map, putting an AI-controlled threat alongside competing players.
The details come from HiddenXperia's reporting, citing anonymous sources. GamesRadar's account of the report describes sources affected by layoffs at Halo Studios. These are unconfirmed descriptions of an abandoned project, not an announcement of a new Halo game.
Squads would reportedly have dropped onto the ring to complete faction missions while fighting other teams and the Flood, which could infect parts of the map. A larger Flood boss could give opponents a reason to stop fighting each other and cooperate. The outbreak was also intended to connect Halo Infinite's setting to the story of a subsequent mainline game.
A separate multiplayer game, not Campaign Evolved co-op
Ekur allegedly lost its extraction and battle royale elements during development, becoming a more conventional Halo multiplayer game made in Unreal Engine. Even that version was reportedly scrapped as developers moved across to help with Halo: Campaign Evolved.
Campaign Evolved is already available. Halo's official launch post lists Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC, including Steam. Its multiplayer offering is campaign co-op: the official game page confirms four-player online cross-play and two-player split-screen on consoles. Those are features of the released remake, not confirmation that Ekur's competitive plans survived in it.
The report traces Ekur back to Project Tatanka, an earlier battle royale concept whose large map would have combined familiar Halo multiplayer locations. That history describes several changing designs, so the reported Flood missions and playable Brutes should not be read as a finished feature list. No release date or platform lineup for Ekur is established by the report.
