Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 have lost online play across all platforms after FromSoftware identified security vulnerabilities in their game servers. Both games remain playable offline. The studio describes the suspension as temporary, but has not announced a date for multiplayer to return.

In a notice dated November 2, FromSoftware confirmed that the shutdown began on October 30 and will last “until further notice.” Its explanation is limited to a security vulnerability affecting the servers; the notice does not detail the flaw or say that player data has been compromised.

The outage removes the online interactions woven into both action RPGs: summoning other players to help with bosses, invading their worlds for PvP and exchanging player messages. Solo exploration and boss fights are still available, but anyone planning a co-op run will need to wait for official online services to resume.

This is not a PC-only interruption. FromSoftware explicitly says all platforms are affected, so switching from a PC copy to a console version will not restore access to the official servers. The notice names Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3, not Dark Souls Remastered.

Dark Souls 2 had only recently returned from a separate interruption. GamesRadar+ reports that its online services came back on October 28, two days before this suspension began.

The series also suffered a months-long PC outage in 2022 following the discovery of a remote code execution vulnerability, as PC Gamer recalls in its coverage of the current shutdown. That earlier incident does not establish the cause or likely duration of this one. FromSoftware's current notice gives no restoration timetable and does not announce a permanent end to either game's online service.
