Xbox is testing a way to buy cloud gaming hours without subscribing to Game Pass, with unused time staying available until it is spent. Cloud Playtime opened to eligible Xbox Insiders on October 21, ahead of a broader rollout planned for November.
The packs pay for streaming access, not a Game Pass library. Players need a cloud-playable game purchase or access to a supported free-to-play game, and a compatible device. Xbox says availability, eligible games and purchasing options can vary by market, device, account eligibility and preview ring.
Cloud Playtime prices and limits
Xbox's announcement lists three packs at introductory launch prices:
| Cloud playtime | Price |
|---|---|
| 10 hours | $3.99 |
| 25 hours | $7.99 |
| 50 hours | $11.99 |
Because the hours remain available until used, the packs let occasional players spread their streaming time across sessions without using it all within a subscription month. Xbox describes the paid experience as ad-free, with shorter wait times and high-quality streaming. The announcement does not specify a resolution or frame-rate target.
The current preview is aimed at Insiders without an active Game Pass subscription. November is the announced window for wider availability, but Xbox has not given an exact launch date or a complete market list. The listed prices are introductory, not a promise of permanent pricing.
A paid alternative to the ad-supported test
Xbox is also continuing its separate free, ad-supported cloud gaming test. Its July 23 announcement set one-hour session limits for streaming select owned games, with ads shown before play begins and no interruption to gameplay.
Cloud Playtime offers an ad-free option alongside that experiment. Neither test grants access to the Game Pass catalogue by itself. Insiders can share feedback through Xbox Player Voice as testing continues.
